Despite the searing Vietnamese heat last Sunday, the AgilityIO team was spotted at Bãi Nam, Sơn Trà with 300 other people from the community, hard at work picking up trash thoughtlessly left behind on the city’s beaches.
On June 5, World Environment Day, AgilityIO was one of the sponsors of the Da Nang Clean Up. The initiative was organized by GreenViet, Son Tra Ec0-tourism Sea Management Board and Evergreen Labs.
Matthew Jackson, AgilityIO’s employee / environmental advocate, led the company’s involvement to help Da Nang become a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city to live in. “Environmentalism has always been a topic of interest and I think it is something everyone should participate in. I’ve always loved the outdoors and I want to make sure that future generations can enjoy it as well. Imagine if everyone would just pick up a piece of trash a day? If we can help raise the awareness of local communities and encourage concern in our surroundings then the outlook of our environment would be much brighter,” said Matthew.
A local celebrity, MC Phan Anh, surprised and delighted volunteers when he showed up and joined in on the activities. See his post and photos here.
“It was extremely encouraging that so many people dedicated their Sunday afternoon to make a difference in their community. It also gives me the impression that people want to help make Da Nang a clean city and are interested in ways to help out,” Matthew continued. “For me, seeing all the trash bags pile up, enabling us to walk barefoot on the sand without sidestepping any rubbish was the highlight of the event.”
